Whats Your Lane?

Not too long ago, we highlighted the growth of the hopper community in RC lowriding. We stressed the need for increased structure in hopping competitions, advocating for tighter rules, like those in 1:1 scale hopping contests.

After writing and sharing the article on social media, we sought your opinions. Surprisingly, while many agreed on the need for more structure in growing contests, some argued it might divide the community, preferring an open-ended approach to engage children. We believe both perspectives can coexist.

Reviewing responses to the hopping contest article, we noted that each person's role in the RC lowrider community influenced their opinions. Despite differing views on achieving growth, everyone shares the common goal. Diverse perspectives contribute to community growth.

Innovators:

- Trailblazers in RC lowriding, innovators push boundaries by introducing novel ideas, modifications, and creative solutions, often setting new standards for the community.

Jevries, known for innovation, used small HO train motors, dental floss, and small fishing weights to break limits, encouraging us to think beyond. Learning game from Armando Flores and David A. Garcia, he laid the foundation for Redcat's creations like the SixtyFour Impala. These early achievements are integral to everything that followed.

While innovators push boundaries, they aren't the only driving force. Master builders and Sunday cruisers also play crucial roles.

Master Builders:

- Highly skilled craftsmen, master builders excel in the intricate art of constructing and customizing RC lowriders. Their expertise transforms these models into unique, eye-catching works of art.

Figures like Seth Carranza, Luie Alcala, Jeff Lozano, Joel Esparza, and Dylan Long Cho, are elite in crafting Redcat Lowriders into works of art. They showcase an unmatched obsession with their craft.

Avid Collectors:

- Devoted enthusiasts who go beyond driving and customizing, avid collectors focus on amassing a diverse and comprehensive collection of RC lowriders, valuing each model for its distinct features and history.

Serious Collectors, like Alphonso Ishida, Chris Mann, and Terry Burk, inspire by regularly updating their fleets and customizing while Munchie Zalazar shows the creative possibilities of a Redcat lowrider chassis with his fleet of hardbodies. Each role is crucial and unique.

Hoppers:

- Specializing in the dynamic aspect of RC lowriding, hoppers excel in building and controlling vehicles capable of impressive jumps and maneuvers. Their skill lies in creating models that gain inches, and perform well in hopping competition.

RC lowrider vets Bradley Willis, Zoom Minitard, and Christian Aradanas are prime examples of what it looks like to take an aspect of this game to the next level.

Servo swaps & hop shock installations, hopper enthusiasts put in the work needed for lift off. You’ll catch them online sharing tips and tricks, as well as competing in hopping competitions at RC lowrider meets near them.

Sunday Cruisers:

- Casual participants who enjoy the laid-back side of RC lowriding, Sunday cruisers relish the pleasure of leisurely drives, appreciating the aesthetics and relaxation that these miniature rides bring to their weekends. Keep in mind, that although this category is where most people tend to start on their RC lowrider journey, this lane just just for beginners.

Many an avid enthusiast simply break their rides out on the weekends for leisure time with the family, and thats just as valid as any category we can name.

While this article doesn't focus on specific products, it invites you to consider the different aspects of RC Lowriding. With all that said, the categories listed above aren’t meant to restrain you into any one role, most avid hobbyist in the game (Including those listed above) remain fluid between two or more lanes, and thats what keeps the hobby interesting, it’s what keeps it alive. Whether supporting others, sharing the joy of lowriding, or exploring your creativity, each person can make a unique impact. You might just inspire or create the next big thing.
